Playing Blackjack With a Blackjack Strategy

May 19th, 2011

Blackjack is considered one of the most, if not the most popular card game in the world. You can find blackjack tables in nearly every casino in the world today. And since this card game can be found in most of the real casinos out there, you can also find it in most online casinos nowadays.

Before you start playing any game which involves money it is always wise to start by learning the game and how it works. It is absolutely insane to start betting on a game you don’t even understand. So if you don’t know anything about blackjack or how it works. I suggest you read about the rules of the game before you start betting.

If you already know the game and the basics of it, then I suggest you learn at least some of the most basic blackjack strategies so that you have a higher chance to win. You can either just learn some basic blackjack strategies that will help you short term to make the decisions you need to make (as in whether to stand or hit) or you can learn some of the advanced ones.

You’ve probably heard of counting cards right? If you haven’t then I can tell you that simply put it means you memorize which cards have already been dealt in order to count the odds. When you know the odds of the cards that are about to be dealt, the game is beatable. The problem here is that counting cards is not considered a legal blackjack strategy by any casino. It is not illegal by law but you will quickly be thrown out of a real casino if you attempt to count cards and beat the game.

So in an “offline” casino, they fight card counting by using software that recognises and registers all the people that play in the casino. They also work hard to spot the counters and some casinos even increase the number of decks in order to make the counting harder. Online casinos simply shuffle the deck before every hand is dealt which makes the counting impossible. If you’re interested in learning more about counting cards then I suggest you start by watching the film “21″. There you’ll get a better understanding of how it works for real.

Let’s move past the card counting. Now you want to learn some of the basic blackjack strategies. Well here is for you an example of a very basic blackjack strategy which might be wise to follow:

  • You should always assume that the down card of the dealer is 10. So if you see that the dealer’s upcard is a 6 and you already have 20 then you can assume that the dealer will get 16 and be forced to hit and hopefully get busted.

It might be a good idea to check out some blackjack strategy charts too because there you’ll see a very clear explanation for when you should hit and when you’d better stand, depending on the dealers upcard and your two cards.

If you’re interested in learning more, Casinator.com has some great blackjack strategies explained and you should also check out their blackjack strategy charts.

How Player May Win Money Playing Blackjack

May 1st, 2011

Blackjack is a relatively simple game. Keep reading this article to find out how player may win money by playing blackjack. Every person at the table is given 2 cards face up or down (depending on the casino’s rules). The dealer will give herself two cards, one face up and one face down. The dealer’s card that is up in addition to the players two cards is what will determine the players next move. The object of the game is to get as close to a total of 21 points without going over and while still having a higher total than the dealer. Being dealt an ace and a face as your first two cards is a blackjack and you automatically win!

Blackjack strategy is easy to follow and follow you must if you wish to get the best odds at winning money. Always assume the dealer has a face card as their down card. If the dealer’s up card is a six or lower, then the rules state that at a dealer 16 they must take a third card. So the player ought not risk busting their hand, even if they have a measly 12. The player can hit if they have an eleven or lower. In fact it may be wise to double your bet if the player has an 11. Odds are the dealer will get a hand totaling over 21 and everyone will win as the dealer busts. If the dealer shows a 7 or higher, still assume the down card is a ten. Then play your two cards in a way to beat the dealers hypothetical hand. Take a card or two but never hit a hand that is 17 or higher (unless soft which means they contain an ace).

If the dealer shows a face card, they will check using a special mirror on the table if their second card is an ace. If it is, that means the dealer has a blackjack and the game is over. If the dealer shows an ace, they will ask if the table wants insurance. It doesn’t matter what insurance offers you or what your cards are at this point. Insurance is what is known as a sucker’s bet. Don’t buy it. The dealer will now check her down card, if it is a face card, she has blackjack and everyone looses. If not, play continues. Play your hand as if the dealer had a face card up. Each casino has their own house rules and some have different side bets players can take a chance on. These are gambles and don’t have odds in favor of the player. However its possible to get lucky so some people will choose to take this gamble. It’s important to note that the least amount of decks a card plays with is best for its players. So sit down at a one or two deck game as opposed to a 6 or 7 deck game.

The card game of black jack has been played and enjoyed by many people over the years. The rules are simple and you will win money if you play wisely.

Playing Tips and Lessons in Blackjack

April 18th, 2011

While it probably takes newcomers weeks to truly master the art and game of poker, learning how to play and win in blackjack only takes a few minutes of your time. This is indeed great news that some people will welcome hearing. If you’re interested in trying online gambling because it’s the nearest thing to visiting a casino – something you can’t afford to do right now for some reason or another – and yet you’re unwilling to risk more than you can afford, look no more. Blackjack is indeed the game that you should learn to play!

The Game of Blackjack

In contrast to the many and often overlapping rules of poker, there’s nothing about blackjack that should confuse you. In blackjack, what you see is what you get and there’s no need at all to practice bluffing because all you have to worry about is beating the dealer’s cards and in this case, it should be the dealer who must be good at bluffing.

The objective of the game is clear cut and simple – your cards must be equal to 21 and the player with cards of this value or one nearest to it (your cards must never total over 21 or that means you lose the game) wins. The moment your cards go over 21, it means you’ve busted and you have to turn over your cards – and your money – to the dealer.

How Do You Know How Much Your Cards Are Worth?

Again, it’s quite easy to know the value of your cards in blackjack. The face cards are equal to ten while the ace may be seen as one or eleven. If, for example, you manage to get a queen and an ace, do count the ace as an eleven right away so that you’d reach the winning total of 21.

How Much Should You Bet

Okay, you might be sick of hearing the word “easy” from me but I’ll repeat it all the same, this time in connection with betting rules – it’s very easy to understand the betting rules of black jack.

Before the dealer starts dealing cards, you’re obligated to place your bet on the designated space in the table first. Secondly, you are given the choice to take insurance or not if and when the dealer shows an ace. The insurance must not exceed one half of his bet. If the dealer ends up with a blackjack, you get your money back. But if he doesn’t, the money is his.

That’s it. Good luck.

Playing Blackjack As A Part Time Profession

March 11th, 2011

There is no reason to stop you, taken you know and can play Basic Strategy backwards flawlessly, have the ability to count a deck down in roughly 25 seconds using a counting method, and know 12 or more Advanced Strategies to increase your odds against the online casinos.

Confident about your playing ability and have no problem with the requirement listed above – you are on your way – YOU ARE A PROFESSIONAL BLACKJACK PLAYER already. People require 3 very important things before they will be convinced to becoming a full time professional player – family, security, and finance. In fact these 3 factors will influence any person in any major job decision they take throughout their life, oh….and….where they live! Living in Las Vegas or Nevada is not quite your family neighbourhood!

The lifestyle of a professional gambler could also not be to the players’ liking – nor to his family’s and he may lose more than just his money in the end. They must also remember that Blackjack does not come with full medical or unemployment insurance, and that his finance might not be large enough to cover a long run of losses, or to make the big bets needed to get the big one! It is a big decision, as changing any job should be, perhaps it can be taken slowly?

What if the player could make some sort of achievable goal during the time he still ahs that stable job, family, security, and extra cash to play with? If a player has “professional Blackjack” skills, why not let it work for him?

For example: A part time player has a day job making just under $ 100 / day. He keeps records his play at the tables and has a win : loss ratio of about 5 : 1, (5 wins out of 6 times). He wins on average 6 units of his smallest wager / hour. So…., if the table minimum is $5 and he places bets of between $5 – $25, he normally takes in roughly $30 / hour. Sometimes he wins more and sometimes has also lost $300, but consistency will ultimately pay off.

If a player wants to average wins of $100 / playing session, the same amount equal to his daily earned after tax income. Taking the win : loss ratio of 5 : 1, and a implementing a stop-loss set at $100, this means he had to win $120 5 x to cover for a loss of $100 on the 6th session. The players’ stop-loss is set at $100 (daily work rate and maximum amount he can afford to lose). Each playing session would be treated as if it was a day at work, so…off days would simply be breaking even. Though the game of Blackjack is win some, lose some, a player can effectively double his income per day.

Any good player keeping records can come up with a similar plan or system – if he earns $50 a day and wins 2 out of 3 times, he can set a stop loss of $50 and aim to win $75 each time he plays.

The system can help players contemplating the move to professional, see that the income can remain the same or even be better than their current income at their present “jobs”. They can prove it to themselves and …become profit from playing blackjack. This system will show players what they are capable of, over a period as long as they want, until they feel comfortable to make the move.

Players who make the move to Professional must also realise that this play is a long term game, and not short term as played before. Basic playing principles much the same: small wager with a Count of +1 and larger wagers above it. This strategy is a “slowly slowly” strategy that makes most Counters their money (% advantage x size of bankroll). There are players who no bankroll, and only their table betting to play with. Here a conservative approach must be used to remove volatility from the game.

Some players (Counters) use Jerry Patterson’s “Takedown” strategy. Jerry is the Father of “Alternative Blackjack” with his mentions of biases and strings of small and large cards due to shuffling and card pick-up routines. He explains why and how counters can avoid being ‘caught’ by betting large amounts as the count rises. “Takedown” is a method of betting for non-counters and Jerry explains that players should bet as the count drops, not as it rises, as it is now that the 10s are coming out.

Most successful Counters use a bankroll and increase their advantage when placing each wager based on the count, and end up earning more money long term, riding out the swings of the game. One such swing can result in a player quitting Blackjack play all together, usually having lost all his money. 6 and 8 deck games are the hardest to beat due to shuffling biases, which is hard to prove mathematically. Traditional Patterson betting strategies are more effective against one and two deck games, which are still common in Las Vegas.

Jerry in “Takedown” also recommends that players lock up their winnings and play on to other limits. i.e. a player must set a goal of say $150 for the day, but if he needs to bet out of his $120 win, he must not. If he got to $150, same deal. Jerry calls this a “winlock” and explains that players must divide their winnings into 3 piles.

Using the above example, the player pockets his $120 and place his $30 win in 3 piles, two $5 chips each. He will place bets from 1 pile only. For the next hand he places a 1 chip bet from pile #3. If he loses, he bets the last chip from pile #3. If he lose, he is done for the day. If the player however gets on a winning streak he replenishes pile #3 back to 2 units. He then places the next win on pile #1, then pile #2, and finally to pile #3, the betting pile. He might get these 3 piles up to 8 units each, then hit a losing streak and lose pile #3, then it is time to QUIT. This is an excellent way to maximize your winnings and minimize your loses.
